"Och, I can't be bothered." *
So I was flitting about the NaNo forums just now, checking out one or two I'd not visited before. It confirmed what I learned in November--most of them are not for me. I went into the "Life after..." forum and while there were some interesting topics, most of them were ones in which I'd read a few posts and then get bored and drift away. I don't need to read what other people learned in doing NaNoWriMo. I don't need to read about the post-NaNo blues. (I lived that. I'm getting over it. I don't need online group therapy for it.) I finished my novel, so I don't care about NaNoFiMo (FinishingMonth). And as for how drastically one rewrites... Let's just say that some of these people are planning/expecting to do such huge rewrites that my inclination is to point out that if it's that bad they should just scrap it and start over. Honestly.
I admit my attention span is short, as is my patience. I'm selfish and I'm lazy, and I'm okay with that. I'm also a firm believer in doing something right the first time so that I don't have to do it all over again--kind of goes with the "lazy" label in my mind. Which doesn't mean I don't/won't edit and rewrite, but let's be realistic, shall we? If you write it at all well the first time, you shouldn't have to start from scratch on the rewrite. I just don't get that frame of mind. Why do it if you're only going to redo it? Fix, yes. Alter, yes. Rewrite completely? That's not a rewrite, that's a write. And as I've stated I don't believe in doing the same job twice.
And I just need to realize that four forums are plenty for me.
[/soapbox] (I didn't realize I'd stepped up on one until I stepped down. ::rolls eyes at self:: )
I think I'd better grab some dinner before I have to pick up Epona for tonight's show.
