What I like in Austin, TX so far:
Nice, quiet pavement to drive on
Wide streets with wide driving lanes
Wide sidewalks with room for peds and cyclists
Barbecue
Bats (which I hope to get to see take flight this evening)

You went to The Salt Lick?!?! That was one of our faves when we were living there. You also have to check out Threadgills and enjoy their 5 vegetable dinner. :) Other fond memories include watching the bats take off at sunset, canoeing on Town Lake, dinner at Pappadeaux's, getting my tattoo on Sixth Street, dinner at The County Line, listening to The Killdares play at Fado's and trying not to die in a fiery wreck on I-35.

That's some list! Well done on the not dying part, btw. We did watch the bats take off last night. Way cool! I've been thinking about Threadgill's--and 5 vegetables sounds really good right now--but I think we're gonna try to go to Oasis tonight. I noticed the many tattoo places on Sixth when we were out strolling yesterday. I really need to get my Monkey tattoo, dammit! I just cannot decide where to put it. Blarg!

Ick. Oasis has a lovely view of the lake, however, the food leaves much to be desired.

The seafood crepes I had were well yummy. Perhaps they've stepped it up since you were here. Or maybe I just got lucky and ordered the best thing on the menu.

You forget, I like humidity. And it's not nearly so humid here as I've known it to be in New Orleans and upstate NY. I'm good with it so far. Ask me again when it tops 90 this weekend. ;-P

Yeah and they're even housing some displaced folks in one end of the convention center. On the electronic signs as we drove down from Dallas: "Do not travel to Houston and Beaumont". We met a Red Cross worker who was on his way down for a three-week stint.
