I think I've mentioned this before...

I'm not a fan of Theatre Puget Sound (TPS).  It's petty and vindictive of me, but this article in today's Seattle Times amuses me.

Theatre Puget Sound sends out SOS for $30,000

Well, add them to the list of every single other theater company in Seattle, trying to stay afloat...

I don't think it is petty and vindictive. I think they are very limited in the services they provide.

I've been a member of TPS except for one year since I moved here 6 years ago. I've even given them money in the past. I used to work for a similar organization in San Francisco - so I get what their mission is and what they are trying to do.

But I have already decided to let my membership lapse. I know they serve theatre companies and do some marketing programs. But a theatre service organization needs to be the "face" of the theatre community - for actors, designers, directors, crew, theatre companies of all ranks.

Theatre Bay Area has succeeded because they have both a website and a magazine that comes to you to share stories and photos of what is going on in the community. It shows you the "face" of the community every month in print and on the web.

All I get from TPS is some crappy audition listings via email. Even if I bother going on the website to the posting board, there isn't enough meaningful discussion to draw me in to care.

Like the auto industry - I think it is ok if some organizations fail if they are not successful and vital to the communities they serve.

And that is my 2 cents.
