I lost out to *what*?!

Dunno if you recall when I submitted a story to Samhain's m/m Valentine anthology. Okay, in fact, I wrote the story specifically for the open request. Kind of like a challenge fic, you know? "Must be: m/m, red hot, valentiney, 25,000 words.  Go!" Anywho, I've not been paying attention to much outside my little world lately so I only tonight noticed this blog post at Samhain's Weblog. Now don't misunderstand me. I wish the woman well and many sales. The point is I was with her up to the "vampire" part. Am I unhip? Am I ahead of the curve? Am I just spoiled? Becuase unless it's Joss Whedon or [profile] jenboo  , I don't give a flying rat's ass about vampires. What is the fascination, people? Get over it!  I'm not actually bitter about this, if that's what you're thinking.  I'm just disappointed (and a little disgusted) that I lost out to a subgenre I consider passé.  C'est la vie, eh?  I console myself with the hope that I'll still be able to sell the story sometime.  I quite like it, and the boys are mm, mm, good!  ::wiggling eyebrows::  ;D

Vampires are past "hip" and into "depressingly boringly mainstream" and, yes, passe. Just look at the sheer numbers of romance-vampire books, softporn-vampire books, TV pilots based on same...

...it's getting silly.

In the 1970s, it was all about the hexagons. In the '00s, apparently, it's all about the vampires.

Then again, to be totally fair, for those who haven't been marinating in the vampire-this and vampire-that since Anne Rice's first coming, vampires are probably still interesting.

Well, you know how it is. Too many people stand on the cutting edge, and it gets dulled.

You know I think vampires are *beyond* done, and have thought so since the Camarilla tried to take over Norwescon the way they did Dreamcon. :-p

I still want one of those stakes that reads "Place Vampire Here" on the pointy end. ;-)
