Seussical rocks!
Aug. 11th, 2007 11:35 amI cannot recommend too highly Everett KidStage's production of Seussical. NordicBoy and I went to opening night last night and were both quite blown away. We knew only a little about the show itself--basically the Seuss books it's based on. It's fun, charming, and spectacular. This is a great show for the age group they have at Everett KidStage. The kids were fantastic! It was much fun seeing some of the students I knew from Midsummer... in January really come into their own. Kids who were a little hesitant then who just emodied the characters in this show completely. V. v. cool! On top of that, the scenic design and costumes were outstanding. The sound levels were mostly balanced well. And the light cues were only rarely the slightest bit late. For $11 a ticket, it's a deal and a half, my friends. If you're local to me even within a couple of hours' driving, I strongly suggest you make time to go see it.
I tell ya, children's theatre programs are a completely different animal from when I was that age. When I was in kids' theatre, the teachers were all coming out of the 60s and 70s and so had that experimental/build it from scratch/make it meaningful mind-set. Nowadays there's more spit-and-polish and more options for kid versions of big Broadway musicals. There's nothing wrong with either style; they're just so completely different that my wee mind boggles.
