Outta here!
Jan. 3rd, 2009 11:28 pmI'm heading off to the snow tomorrow and won't be back until Thursday night, so I probably won't be online again until Friday. I am taking my computer so I can work on manuscripts, but I don't think the cabin has wifi. ;) I'll see you all when I get back. Try to stay out of too much trouble while I'm gone!

Happy Solstice!
Dec. 21st, 2008 05:45 pmAnd it really looks like winter outside, too! The fluffy snow under the layer of ice under the new layer of fluffy snow with more snow predicted to fall. Whee! While I'm sad to be missing
lemurkitten's Solstice party this evening, I'm happy to see a real winter wonderland outside my windows. I still want to go to the gathering, but it's just too dangerous out there, IMO. As safe as NordicBoy and I might be, I just don't trust anyone else out on the roads, esp. after what I've seen of people's driving over the past week. I've been out on foot more than enough to know I don't want to go out on wheels. And as it gets colder, roads are freezing over. Ugh. ::shakes head:: But at least I've got candles lit here at home and there's shortbread in the oven. The house smells so yummy! (The dining room just smells like sugar from the desecrated gingerbread.)
I hope everyone else gets to spend this longest night somewhere cozy and warm with your loved ones!

More snow!
Dec. 21st, 2008 09:31 amWe got at least another six inches overnight. It's crazy! It never stays snowy for this long and it certainly doesn't snow like this in December. The rare snow we get usually falls in January and melts after a day or two. But it's been arctic here this past week. Lowest I saw was 12.1F in our back yard one early morning--I think it was just before 7am on Thursday. It's NUTS! But it sure is purty!

Here's our enormous horsechestnut tree this morning.

And the antique rose bush in front of the house.
See? Purty! And a lovely way to wake up on Winter Solstice morning. :)

Who says it never snows here?
Dec. 20th, 2008 07:40 pmUsually, that's true. Or if it does snow, the snow only hangs around for a day or two, tops. This year however...
Snow started last Saturday. It hung around until Wednesday, when they predicted a big storm that didn't come--until Thursday. A couple more inches fell, which isn't much to people in the Midwest. But people in the Midwest don't have hills, so their perspective is different. In fact, Thursday there was enough snow that NordicBoy skied to work. Fortunately, it's only about four miles each way.

I've had a few snowy adventures: trying to get to Weight WAtchers only to discover they were closed; going grocery shopping and walking home through the snow; that sort of stuff. , Frankly, I've loved it. I baked a lot. That's always a good thing. Got all the prezzies together, although they're not wrapped, but that'll get done eventually. Got the stuff that needed shipping shipped out the day before the second snow hit. And managed to get to REI to pick up my order before people were coming over for gingerbread. You see, today was the annual Rankin-Bass Gingerbread party and NordicBoy and I hosted this year. The third snow started falling this afternoon while we were desecrating gingerbread. Here are a few choice pics from the festivities.
( Pics behind the cut... )
All in all, another successful gathering. In spite of the snow. :)
And now I'm snuggled up on the sofa with the cozy kitty, who is nicely full of smoked salmon. That's a good day.

It is 81 degrees in my back yard.
Apr. 6th, 2007 02:52 pmIt's a shame the M's are playing (or rather trying to play) in Cleveland.

I'm sad for my boys of "summer". I'm sad for the Indians. I'm sad for the fans whose butts are probably freezing to the seats. I'm sad for the grounds crew who are doing their damnedest to get/keep the field clear.
