That whole "adult content" hooey

So LJ decided that they needed "adult concept" and "explicit adult content" filters.  One the one hand, I can see their point, especially after that whole debacle a little while back that got a lot of undeserving folks temporarily suspended.  On the other hand, it simply adds another layer of annoying to the whole bloody system.  You can change your options in your manage settings screen (if you can fucking find it without help from a friend who already knows where it is--sorry but the link is not obvious, thankyouverymuch).  BTW, try this link and see if it works:  http://www.livejournal.com/manage/settings/

Then, in order not to have to click through the warnings you have to set your age in your manage profile settings.  As if there is anything stopping a 14-year-old from putting "1942" as a birth year.  ::rolls eyes::  So, apologies to those who have to click through that shit to read my LJ.  Please know I appreciate that little extra effort, because the fact is I do not intend to censor myself for the sake of "No Adult Concepts".  I think that's just ridiculous.  I won't go for "Explicit" because I don't post fic here so I don't really feel the need.  It's all just one more hassle that is, in the end, pointless.

There are days when I wouldn't put it past them--although that isn't really fair of me. They don't have an easy task, I know. I just hate when there are suddenly new and unexpected hoops to jump through.

I'm of two minds on this whole thing.

One mind thinks: ok, that means I can be less worried about offending folks if my potty mouth gets really bad (like the other day).

The 2nd mind thinks much like you...yet more hoops to jump through.

I decided to go with the Adult content since I am such a potty mouth sometimes...better safe than sorry, you know. If someone blunders into my LJ they're warned that I'm not a "lily white" type person. So it will possibly help keep me from getting "reported" for my potty mouth. ;)

The very thought of a 12-year-old reading my fic is ... staggering. If they're smart, then either my LJ will now be invisible, or my "read anything" preference will eliminate any barriers I might encounter. Yahoo has been doing it well for years, as have other sites.
