I haven't done a musical since...2000?  2001?  A while, at any rate.  But there's one coming up this fall that I really want to be in.  So I need to get back into the habit of singing.  I've started by singing along with CDs or mp3s in the car.  Today, it's musical soundtracks, starting with Assassins.  Yeah, it's a little crazy to dive straight into Sondeihm (or Mozart for the Modern Age, as I consider him), but it's amazing how much of the lyrics I can remember after not even listening to it for years.  It's also amazing how much of my voice training I still remember.  Muscle memory, really.  Admittedly, three summers of outdoor theatre have had an effect on my vocal chords.  Not irreparable, though, and not to my upper range.  After this, I think I'll pop in Chess or Into the Woods or The Producers.

I need a copy of the more recent production of Assassins, the one with Neil Patrick Harris as the Balladeer.  The original soundtrack doesn't have the song "Something Just Broke".  It's so gorgeous, but it wasn't written until the show played in London.

Give me a holler if you want a vocal coach. Once upon a time, I taught voice for three years as a student voice teacher at college. I'm not a good piano player, which is why I never pursued it - but I can help you prep and make sure you won't burn out your vocal chords.

I'm intrigued by Drood, but not sure if I'll have the time.

P.S. I've got an Assassins copy I got from Jay if you want to borrow.
