Jun. 30th, 2005 10:30 amI don't watch the news. If I do, it's The National on CBC. So yesterday when my mom said that some kid in West Seattle had randomly shot the Newport High tennis coach, it was new information. I thought, 'I hope the kid gets strung up for it.' I still hope so. I mean, we have lethal injection, but it's been so long since anyone swung in this state, and I think this kid shouldn't get to go out peacefully. (There are a few of you who might not know that this is my one view that doesn't jive with my liberal leanings. I think that if you murder someone like that, you immediately forfeit your rights. All of them. Particularly the right to continue breathing. Yes, it really is that simple.) So anyway, I didn't think anything more about it until I called my dear friend Nancita this morning to see when she wants to go to the zoo.
I don't always make connections in my head.
Nancita is a teacher at Newport High. She was getting ready to go to the memorial service when I called this morning. She knew the tennis coach, you see. She's friends with his wife. Their kids are in daycare together. All of a sudden this random killing in West Seattle has more meaning to me than simply "Humans suck". So I'm sending this random message out into the universe in the hopes that the murdering bastard picks up on it:
Samson Berhe, I hope you hang.
