Glitter galore!
Nov. 6th, 2005 12:41 pmYesterday I attended the annual Goodwill Glitter Sale for the first very time. I don't know how I survived so long without going. Hell, I didn't even know it existed until my sister-in-law mentioned it last year--after the fact, unfortunately. What a screaming hoot it was! Nancita and I carpooled down. Arriving 15 minutes before the doors opened, we figured we'd be in good time. Heh. The line was already to the end of the block when we arrived. The doors opened at 9:00am, and the feeding frenzy began. From the Vintage Boutique--where Nancita began her stalking of a woman carrying a coat exactly fitting the description she'd told me in the car of what she wanted to find--to the warehouse-like room filled with rack after rack of shmancy clothes, bin after bin of fabulous shoes, and case after case of vintage and contemporary jewelry--where she finally asked the woman if she was buying the coat--the place was packed with people grabbing things off the racks and trying them on. No, there are no dressing rooms at the Glitter Sale. You wear things that you can try clothes on over, and you just go. It's like a clothing swap, only one with hundreds of people and a bill to be paid at the end. And it's slightly less naked.
Let me share with you my small but fabulous haul:
$12.99 - Ankle-length red velvet and sparkles dress
$9.99 - Platform strappy pumps that are the perfect burgundy to match a dress I thrifted several weeks ago
$3.99 - Purple pleather pants - too trashy-fun to pass up
$2.99 - Blueish sparkly halter-style top (see above note)
$6.99 - Ankle-length black velvet skirt for the Mama-san
$9.99 - Black velvet and rose print hooded coat, also for the Mama-san
Not too damned bad for a little under three hours of shopping, no? It was extra fun because, not having a specific agenda or goal, I could just ride the wave--and put my thrifting senses to work for Nancita, for whom I found stunning strappy high-heeled sandals, leopard-print boots, and just the right green coctail dress she wanted for Christmas. Now that's satisfiying!
I took the stuff I got for the Mama-san over to her last night (along with leftover lentil soup, which we all enjoyed). I also took her a bunch of blouses and shirts that don't fit me anymore, but which all looked great on her. I'm so pleased! I get to shop and I get stuff out of my closet, and it all finds good homes. :)
(For those wondering, Nancita got the coat and I believe wore it to the ballet last night. ;D )
On a completely unrelated note, I got Log 3:4 off to the betas on Friday. Yay!
