Reclaiming the basement
Sep. 2nd, 2007 02:57 pmSept. 1: Moved many large, heavy and less heavy things. Removed old carpet layer, older carpet layer, and coconut matting layer. Took three layers to the dump. (The dump! A treat! :D ) So worth the $20 to unload that stuff! The middle layer stank of kitty pee like you don't want to imagine. Stopped at Ace for Simple Green cleaner and floor scrubbing things. Stopped at All the Best for Petastic stink remover. Shop-vacced the floor. Scrubbed, washed, rinsed, dried and treated the large uncovered rectangle of floor. Showered and went to Festival.
Sept. 2: Moved things to clean piece of floor. NordicBoy cleaned up the big 60s-era stereo cabinet and listed it on Craig's List. It works, it only needs a new needle for the phonograph. I cleaned another large section of uncovered floor. Much of this wasn't covered by the carpet layers and so was far dirtier. Vacced, scrubbed, washed, rinsed, dried, and treated this patch of floor and part of the wall. NordicBoy is peparing to paint the wall along the side of the stairs as an experimental test section to see how the wood paneling handles the paint...assuming he ever returns from donating stuff to Value Village. Maybe he's stopped at the store to buy cookies... Mmm...cookies!

He just got home. No cookies. :(
