Making up words

I'm not very good at making up realistic sounding words.  Are you?  I mean, they just sound fake to me when I do it. Maybe because I know they are, but that's not all of it, I'm sure.  I'm just not good at it, and so when I need to make up a word--one that sounds normal to an English-savvy ear, not something that's alien or faux-foreign--I get thoroughly stumped.  It's most annoying.  Usually I can warp a real word to suit my needs, but it's not working this time.  ::sigh::  It's a small thing, but it's just bugging me.

Okay.  Enough whinging.  I'm off to run with devinam.  Maybe the chilly air and lack of oxygen will inspire a couple of syllables.
