Show is officially open!
Dec. 8th, 2007 09:44 amWe had a good house last night. Not huge, but supportive and positive. They laughed at funny moments--and yes, it is, according to the playwrite, a COMEDY--and they applauded a lot. That's always nice. Although it's hard to hold for laughs when you really don't expect them. Some lines have everything but a rim-shot, you know? But others it's like, That was funny? Oh. Shit. I'll try to hold for the laugh should it happen again next time.
The weird thing is it didn't feel like any opening night I'd had before. There was a distinct lack of pre-show jitters that, in the end, I put down to us being so very prepared. I don't believe I've ever felt quite that ready to open before. Strange. Probably very good. But very strange.
And the postshow party at the fabu restaurant next door was fabu! Champagne and really good pizza, pasta, and salad made for an easygoing but energetic and fun time. That was cool. To have an orgainzed and catered after party like that where you could sit and eat real food instead of milling around with a glass in one hand and a plate of nibbledybits in the other wishing you could set one or the other down so that you could actually eat something. You know? And it was extra nice to hang out and just eat, drink, and talk with the rest of the cast. We've not gone out after rehearsals because we never rehearsed on a friday or saturday, so while we like each other and work well together, there's not been that bonding over bevvies that I really like to have. We got that last night, and it was awsome! Finally! Just to chat (loudly) in a place that isn't the theatre. So nice and IMO so vital to a rock solid cast. Which we are. I want to work with them all again--partly so I can actually talk to most of them. I have one line to Richard one to Philip--neither of whom answer. Otherwise, everything I say is to either Henry or Eleanor. Yeah. I need to work with them all again.
