monkeybard: (Game on)
So I got one of those many MoveOn.org emails, this one with the heading:  "Free Obama button".  Of course any sensible person realizes before opening the email that it means I can get an Obama button for free.  I know that.  I am, occasionally, sensible.  That didn't stop my brain from thinking "Free Obama!" just as it might think "Free Tibet!"  ...  Well, it made me laugh.

Hey, gang, I'm guest blogging today over at Kate Davies Blogs! Pop on over and see what I'm up to, literarily speaking.  You might even win a prize...

(And I coded the damned link by hand so it bloody well ought to work this time.)
monkeybard: (such rubbish)
I despise to my core the Washington State Liquor Control Board. They appear to decide on whim (It's either that or bribery, and I wouldn't want to libel anyone. ::rollseyes:: ) what can and can't be sold in the state of Washington. For example:  They allow all sorts of Irish Cream, but no Heather Cream.  Hello?  The difference being whiskey base vs. scotch base.  So...WTF? The logic escapes me.  And now, all I'm trying to do is buy a bottle of a particular kind of port online for NordicBoy's birthday.  Every site I've found that carries it says it "can not be shipped to WA".  Gee.  Wonder why.  Hmm...  Could it be because of the WSLC-f*ing-B?  Yeah.  Think so.  How much d'you want to bet I could get it in a freakin' grocery store in, say, California?  It's a cold day in hell when I think anything about CA is better than WA, but it must be snowing at Satan's house today becasue here I am, saying it.  I don't mind having state liquor stores.  That's totally fine by me.  Makes it that much tougher for underage drinkers to get the hard stuff.  (They'll still get it, but it's a bigger challenge this way.)  But I want to know exactly how the WSLCB makes the decisions it makes, because it seems to me to have neither rhyme nor reason.  Fortunately, I found a similar port - different brand, same type - that I can have shipped here, so I did.  I just hope it gets here in time.  I have over a week, so...  ::crossing fingers::
