The church I grew up in almost wouldn't baptize a girl who was, I believe, 11 or 12. She met with the minister - as does everyone who joins that church who want to be baptized - and apparently proved that she understood the commitment she was making, since she was baptized the next time they did that. They did (and presumably still do) baptisms twice a year. It takes a lot of effort and prep when you have a big ol' baptistry to fill up and dunk people in. ;)
