monkeybard: (OMG)

I just read the following in a NY Times article (emphasis mine).

"San Diego County, the largest county in California without a fire department, relies on a hodgepodge of local departments that are almost all serving areas where populations are growing faster than their tax bases, and which are often low on money among a constituency that is generally allergic to taxes."

It blows my mind that such a populous county doesn't have its own fire department.  What are they thinking (other than that they don't want to pay more taxes?  Yes, taxes suck.  But taxes are a NECESSARY evil.)?  OMFG!  Am I the only one who finds this just downright crazy?

Sweetie, it's all part of the plan. Bitch and whine and pinch the greedy fingers on your "taxpayer hands" together, then complain when you DON'T get services. It's Republicanism 101. Make the government so (1) broke and (2) incompetent that it simply collapses from within and gets privatized. Case in point, the military. Case #2 in point: No Child Left Behind and the public school system. I could go on.
