This is for anyone who ever goes to any sort of theatre--live, movie, outdoor, whatever. CHECK YOUR CELL PHONE BEFORE THE SHOW STARTS. People are so plugged in it just kills me. And a little note to those who forget to check their cell phones: If someone else's goes off, the performers (and other audience members) would rather hear the soft scrambling of half the audience checking to make sure their phones are silent/off rather than hear a second cell phone ringing from somewhere else in the house. Gah!

Otherwise, last night was a Thursday. Not great, but not awful.

Oh noes! I'm sorry. I'm so with you. And you know me fairly well...I ALWAYS make sure my phone is on either vibrate or I've turned it off when I'm at plays, movies or hell, even a convention. I paid to see a performance of some kind and I'm certainly NOT going to talk on my cell during it.

Oh my gosh! Did it happen last night too? I was at your performance on Saturday and it happened then too. In fact even after it rang, the dude did not put it on vibrate or anything, so it started up again a moment later! Argh! And then to talk to the person during the performance. Some people are so clueless.

Hopefully the rest of the performances will be ring-free.

Can you have "Richard" charge the offending individual?

Or possibly: print out flyers with huge block letters reading
SPECIAL HELL
captioned
(where you're going if you don't mute your cellphone)

Granted, this won't stop incidents...but if you make folks laugh about it, or find some creative way to shame people into behaving nicely...well, at least you'll get the joy of creatively mocking someone.

I couldn't agree more, and as a teacher, let me add that IT'S NOT GOOD IN CLASS EITHER. Nothing is more annoying http://www.presentationhelper.co.uk/sound/cell_phone.wav than to be in the middle of a lecture when someone's ridiculous (and they always are ridiculous) ring tone interrupts http://www.audiosparx.com/sa/archive/Electronics/Cell-phones/Toccata-in-Fugue-phone-tones/65943 and they have to scramble madly to find where the hell they put the phone and then which button (because it's NEW) they push to turn it off, or worse, they ANSWER it.

So you were there that evening? I wasn't sure you'd made it since I didn't see you after. Sorry you had to be there for that phone debacle. I loved when someone in the audience yelled at the guy. I cannot believe he actually answered the thing! That's what really kills me.

That was the worst--when the guy answered it. Then he hung up and it rang again. TWICE! Gah!

I hear ya. I admit that I do use my cell phone occasionally at the store, especially if I'm buying for someone else and I need their help deciding what to get. Other than that, I tend not to use my cell that much in public.

Yes - I was there that evening. I'm sorry I didn't stick around afterwards; I had to get up early the next morning so I kind of needed to boogey home. I enjoyed your performance, but it was certainly interesting being in the audience. Aside from the phone idiot, there was some chick sitting near me that was reacting as if this were real, making out loud comments and such. Kind of annoying. She must have moved after intermission, though cuz she was not in the same spot.

But definately unbelievable, to answer the phone and then talk to the person on the other end!
