monkeybard | How I spent the holiday

How else but doing laundry (because it's monday and that's the usual laundry day around here) and working on my latest novel. Since the latter is far more interesting than the former, that is where I shall now focus this post.

I got another 1200+ words down today--after 1600+ yesterday and 2700+ the day before. I think that makes up for accomplishing nothing last thursday and friday, don't you? Things are rolling along at a pretty good clip towards the climax now, too, I'm pleased (and a little relieved) to announce. I stopped writing this afternoon because I needed to do a bit of research. You see, the climax involves magical rituals (and a menage a trois) and while I can make up whatever I want because it's my invented religion and my characters, I like to ground it in reality to some extent. So off I went to the Wiccan, Pagan, and Celtic websites I have bookmarked to collect up gems, herb, tree lore, etc. so I can write The Big Scene. I also need to re-read my notes on and the text of the ritual scenes I wrote in the short story that hasn't sold (yet). Got to make sure there is some level of consistancy between them, you know? Not that there's much in common in the goals of those rituals and this one, but they are technically based on the same ancient traditions, so a bit of similarity is warranted. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to shelve my research and writing for a couple of days yet again. (Fucking gainful employment. Gets all in the way of life.) Still, I hope to make good progress later in the week. Wish me luck, please. If you wish it hard enough, I might even finish the first draft by the end of February, which is at present the goal.
