LOL! I'd like to read that. ;) Sounds a little like a YA book I read centuries ago where a girl's parents, shortly before dying, charged their assistant/alien/android/idon'tremember to care for her and make sure she could surive. They, and she naturally, were humans on an inhospitable planet. Maybe they were terraforming it? At any rate, human colonists came later. The girl meets her first humans and discovers that her caretaker has altered her DNA so she can survive without domes/suits/et al in the otherwise hostile climate. So, not so much with the human any more. Wish I knew what it was called or who wrote it. I'd totally reread it.

Dude. The Guardian of Isis. Or one if the Isis books. Monica Hughes hails from Edmonton Alberta! Amazing series of books. I'd love to read them again too! That book has always stuck strongly in my head. Formative Jr. High scifi right along with L'Engle for me!
