...not to mention disturbing. Amazon.com Telling POD Publishers - Let BookSurge Print Your Books, or Else... It's bad enough that Starbucks bought Seattle's Best Coffee several years back (All Your Coffee Are Belong To Us). At least they finally seem to be coming back to their senses as much as any ginormous company can. But if this story turns out to be true, Amazon.com will be another local company in serious need of some self-evaluation and soul-searching--not to mention some searching in order to find the soul it's lost.  Let's hope this is a tempest in a teacup and that Jeff Bezos comes down from the mountain to explain WTF is really going on.

Now that print-on-demand publishing has gotten to the point where it's profitable, companies are moving in to buy themselves some supply chains/partnerships. They get to reap longterm profits, but didn't have to gamble on building a customer/writer base.
