Giggling at myself
Jun. 20th, 2008 03:05 pmOkay, long story short, I have a short story I'm making longer. (Okay, really a novella I'm making longer, but that's not funny.) I'm working on it now and each time I do a quick word count, I giggle. This thing started life as a 25,500-word story entry for an anthology. It didn't get accepted and now I'm extra glad. Even gladder than I was when I saw the stories that were accepted: mine wouldn't have fit with them at all, thematically or stylistically.
So, my editor reads it and likes it but complains that it's too short. She wants more background on the boys, higher stakes in their relationship. I totally agree. I did a big edit and addition that pushed it over 31,000, and now I'm that close to topping it over 34,000 words. ::giggle:: And I'm less than half way through my re-read/edit of my initial additon-edit. I may just make it to category length yet. LOL!
ETA: 34,058 and counting...
