monkeybard: (summer solstice)

Friday: Celebrated NordicBoy's new Professional Engineer status with dinner out at a yummy seafood restaurant with a gorgeous view of the water.

Saturday: Chilled out in the morning. Went to a wedding (NordicBoy's uncle's) in the afternoon. Then I met up with

[profile] carrot_cake67    for Eddie Izzard! I haven't laughed so hard for so long in I don't know how long. Brilliant and hilarious! :D

Sunday: Went to the park to watch some theatre. Caught the end of All's Well That Ends Well (Last Leaf, I think); saw GreenStage's Twelfth Night and Theatre Schmeatre's The Wind in the Willows; then left while Wooden-O was putting up their unnecessarily complex set for Romeo & Juliet. (I've done that show indoors and we didn't need as much crap as they were setting up. Whatever. ::rollseyes:: )

Twelft Night: Loved it. Really a great show. Wonderful to see a Sebastian who was actually a good actor. (So often that isn't the case becasue you naturally cast Viola first, and then look for someone physically similar to play Sebastian who can't necessarly to justice to the part. So glad it wasn't the case this time.) My only complaint is entirely personal. I like my Olivia better. The actress playing her was good--although she was awfully shouty and angry in the beginning--I just prefer the interpretation I chose when I played the role. She didn't make a bad choice, by any means. I just know I was funnier. ;-P

The Wind in the Willows: The production was good, but I felt the script would have benefited from the addition of a narrator. It's a lot to fit into an hour and a quarter, and despite what Ratty says in the beginning, I always have trouble understanding why anyone wants to help Toady. He's such an irredeemable jackass. He really is. And while Ratty says that Toad is so good to his friends, Toad never shows that in his actions--at least not in any abbreviated version of the story. The actor was great; it's just that Toad has never been my favourite charater. It's all about Moley for me. Oh. And everyone needs to up their volume. (Didn't get to tell you that in person, [profile] belfrynotes  , before we headed out. You guys all need to turn it up to 11. ;) )

Despite my three layers of sunscreen, I managed to get toasted in a few spots.  Not too badly though, and I was very careful not to burn my feet.  I didn't have the option today of staying home and barefoot.  That said, better get back to work here in this office-thingy-place.

I've always hated Toad. I think in the book (or at least in the Thames TV English series I watched as a kid), Badger says the only reason they hang out with him is that his father was a really good guy, and they're kind of hoping he'll turn around one day. Still. Bleh.

Moley all the way, with a side of Badger.
