monkeybard: (such rubbish)

I despise to my core the Washington State Liquor Control Board. They appear to decide on whim (It's either that or bribery, and I wouldn't want to libel anyone. ::rollseyes:: ) what can and can't be sold in the state of Washington. For example:  They allow all sorts of Irish Cream, but no Heather Cream.  Hello?  The difference being whiskey base vs. scotch base.  So...WTF? The logic escapes me.  And now, all I'm trying to do is buy a bottle of a particular kind of port online for NordicBoy's birthday.  Every site I've found that carries it says it "can not be shipped to WA".  Gee.  Wonder why.  Hmm...  Could it be because of the WSLC-f*ing-B?  Yeah.  Think so.  How much d'you want to bet I could get it in a freakin' grocery store in, say, California?  It's a cold day in hell when I think anything about CA is better than WA, but it must be snowing at Satan's house today becasue here I am, saying it.  I don't mind having state liquor stores.  That's totally fine by me.  Makes it that much tougher for underage drinkers to get the hard stuff.  (They'll still get it, but it's a bigger challenge this way.)  But I want to know exactly how the WSLCB makes the decisions it makes, because it seems to me to have neither rhyme nor reason.  Fortunately, I found a similar port - different brand, same type - that I can have shipped here, so I did.  I just hope it gets here in time.  I have over a week, so...  ::crossing fingers::

Ooh do I agree about the WSLCB. If the state got out of the booze biz, sold the real estate, fired the state employees at all the stores -- not that I really want to see anyone fired -- and let the market set prices, I am convinced that they would make significantly more money off tax revenue which they could then apply to social programs we need because there would still be just as many alcoholics as before who need help. I do not believe there would be any more if it was easier to buy the hard stuff. Anyway, send me some brand names of what you're looking for and I'll see what I can find out. I've had scotch shipped to me before from out of state, though the box said it was wine....
