monkeybard: (Daniel-coffee)
I spent most of yesterday re-reading, editing, and tweaking my NaNovel.  It's now up to 71,500+ words, and I'm glad to say I don't think it'll quite reach 72,000.  The bad guys have ceased twirling their mustachios; the 2ndMC is now more accessible to the reader and more sympathetic; and I discovered I'd instinctively done something a writing teacher on the NaNo forums recommends to his/her classes.  Go figure.  I'm feeling a little smug clever about that last bit. ;)

I have one chapter left to go.  That's about 18 pages (7500+ words - I never used to even think about word count.  How funny the effect NaNoWriMo has had on me.) in this case.  I anticipate serious tweaking, but I could be wrong.  I know I did some work on this section previously, so it's a case of seeing what I did, whether I like it, and if it's satisfactory.

Oh! and today is the cut-off for the anthology to which I submitted.  Only nine more days to wait until they make their final decisions.  ::crossing fingers::  I'm trying not to get my hopes up, but it's hard not to, you know?

I just sold my summer.  More details when they become available.

Mariners pre-game show.  They just showed the footage of Edgar Martinez's double that scored Joey Cora and Ken Griffy, Jr., to send the Ms to the second round of playoffs for the first time.

It still makes me cry.

There's a reason we named a street after him.  There's a reason he's going into the Ms Hall of Fame tomorrow.  There's a reason why, in 2010 when he's eligible, they should retire his number with the Ms and induct him into the Baseball Hall of Fame.  He defined the role of the Designated Hitter.  Whether you like the position or not--and oh! I do!--his achievements deserve MLB-wide recognition.  We should all be as good at what we do, and as good a person, as Edgar Martinez.

Da-da-da da, da-da! GARRRRRR!

NordicBoy and I went for a fabu dinner tonight at a neighbourhood restaurant called Pair.  It's sort of tapas-like in that every dish is meant to be shared by two people.  We shared:

Roasted beet and watercress salad with goat cheese - Golden beets, dollops of cheese, bright green watercress, a light vinaigrette. - Delightful.
Broccolini with calamata olives and a bit of roasted lemon squeezed over the top - So yummy though a bit strong. The one dish we didn't quite finish.
Spinach and ricotta dumplings in a rosted tomato sauce - It was like big spinach gnocchi. - Yum!
Dungeness Crab Mac and Cheese - Heavier on the crab than the cheese and perfecctly balanced because of it. - Superbly delicious. (There is no better crab on this planet. Don't argue with me because I am right.)
Juniper brined pork with fingerlings and green pea puree - OMFG FANTASTIC! So tender and juicy and sweet you wouldn't believe.  ::happy sigh::

NordicBoy had a glass of the Multipulciano, while I opted for the sparkling rose.

For dessert, he had the Banana Bread Pudding with vanilla ice cream, caramel sauce, and walnuts.  I had a taste and it was rich and banana-y.  I, naturally, went for the Vanilla Rhubarb Creme Brulee.  O.M.G.  Just...just...O!M!G!

I'm very glad we walked because hauling my ass out of the car after a meal like that would not be pretty.  Much better to stroll home and collapse on the sofa.  ::thud::
