So, out of curiousity, why does it matter if they re-make it? they're not removing the original, they're not even taking it out of print or syndication, so...what good will it serve to stop them spending whatever money they want to on whatever they want? I don't particularly have a care one way or the other, but I find it a bit, um, anti-first ammendment-ish and almost scary right wing-ish to try to petition to stop an artistic endeavor of any kind, regardless of who's doing it and what they're re-making. i'm just curious. :) Now, if they said "we want to burn the original and replace it with a cheap knockoff" that would be another story. ;)
It's the supreme lack of creativity on the part of Hollywierd that I object to. Incapable of doing anything with any creativity or originality, they dig through their vaults to see what classics they can scrounge up to remake in an attempt to make themselves money without producing anything genuinely new. It's one thing to mount multiple productions of a stage show; there have been plenty of Rocky Horror and IMO should be many more. In this case, for me, it boils down to "It ain't broke, so don't try to fix it (because you'll only fuck it up)."
Did that make sense? I'm so mind-numb from a *fascinating* conference call that I'm not sure I'm even typing in English right now.
yup, that makes sense. so from your perspective the petition isn't "don't make it just because i don't want you to" it's more "get off your lazy ass and find something original"?
Definitely! Although my friend kayjayuu summed it up in her comment on her blog better and more thoroughly than I. (You might need to scroll down to find it.)
She's dead on. And people wonder why kids of today are so boring. They get remakes of remakes of remakes shoved down their throats so much so that they can't have an original thought themselves. Sadness.
