I'm watching The National on CBC.  The bombings in London are horrible, but that's not what brought me near to tears.  I expect humans to behave badly, and the worst behaved and most cowardly are terrorists (followd closely by Dubyah).  What gets me verklempt is the people walking home.  Just walking home.  Whether it's a few miles or all the way across London.  They're walking.  This to me is what life is--simply facing events and dealing in whatever way necessary.  In this case, that means walking hours and miles home.  They're just doing it because it needs to be done.

You go, London.  We're all behind you.

I know...and I couldn't help the part of my brain that thought..."at least it isn't as bad as 9/11". Nevermind that the families of everyone who died are affected just as much as the families of 9/11...it makes me sad.

Query...do you think this had anything to do with the fact that yesterday London was announced as the site for the 2012 Olympics?

Unless Osama is hiding out at the IOC, probably not. Paris was expected to win, and something like this would take more than 24 hours to plan and carry out.

I'd guess that if the attacks are tied to any external event, it's the G8 meeting.

A long time, and it's just the kind of event people like Osama would find particularly heinous: the wealthy nations of the world getting together to try and figure out how to help the poorer nations. Can't have that contradicting his hate-filled rhetoric... :-p (Ironic moment: I literally can't come up with a word awful enough to associate with Osama and his terrorist ilk. "Fuckers" and "assholes" just don't even come close.)

London will get through this. We'll all get through this, walking one step at a time.

I'm partial to thinking of them as ichneumon wasps, myself, but as much as said wasps deserve a catchy Anglo-Saxon monosyllable, they never got one.

There really isn't a good word for "actively offensive parasite", and while "pig fucking ass biters" has the advantage of being offensive to its subjects it's a bit long to roll off the tongue. I usually settle for "scum" when I'm in a hurry.

Actually, it just occurred to me that for an Arab, "shoe bomber" is both accurate and offensive. It can even be used in a verbal form, as in "go suck your shoe bomb": senseless violence and sexual paraphilia wrapped in a culturally appropriate insult! Or, to really pile it on, "I bet you fucked the pig they made your shoe bomb from." Mix in references to family members, prostitution, and Osama bin Laden in tight (pig-)leather chaps, and the possibilities are endless.

I think we all owe a debt to Richard Reid. Who knew?

(Yep, feeling extra cranky today.)
