I saw the new Trek flick this week and I gotta say I really enjoyed it.  I was warned, as a life-long Trekkie, to accept that it's AU and just sit back and enjoy the ride, which I did.  Karl Urban was brilliant.  Simon Pegg can actually do a Scottish accent.  (No offence, Jimmy.  I still loves ya!)  And Zoe Saldana is almost as beautiful as Nichelle Nichols.  All in all, I'd call it the best piece of fanfiction I think I've ever seen.  ;-D

I really enjoyed it. I guess by making it AU it gives them more flexibility with future movies; they don't have to try to follow cannon. I agree - Karl Urban was brilliant! He was my favorite in the movie. I also thought Zachary Quinto was a pretty good Spock. And Chekov was just too cute!! He was a hoot. However, I did not like the character Uruha that much (they way the character was writtne, not the actress or her performance); I really dislike the whole relationship between her and Spock. I could have done without that. But aside from that - I really enjoyed the movie. Much better than the original series. I never liked it too much. I did not find Kirk to be a believable Captain - too much on the prowl and took too many risks with his life that I didn't think a Captain of a starship should take. But as my hubby pointed out - that was the way they wanted characters in the 60's. Which he probably has a point. But that doesn't change my opinion. To me Picard was a better captian. However, as much as I disliked the series - I did like the movies. I'm odd that way.

So anyway - I look forward to other future movies.
