Humming to myself
Mar. 19th, 2005 05:27 pmIt's a lovely day today
So whatever you've got to do...
Yes, that's right. It's the tune I frequently hum on rainy days. Today, for example. It's been raining--not hard, but pretty steadily--since about noon. This pleases me greatly and just adds to my enjoyment of a quiet saturday.
The day started with spelt french toast and maple syrup. ::happy sigh:: I've had neither for ages, it seems. I also tried a little of the cactus syrup
jaunthie gave me. It was fruity and good! A nice contrast to the warm, maple flavour.
The man-cub and I had a library date today. We caught Joe Metro and went to the Downtown Library. Neither of us had been since it was built and reopened about a year ago. (For shame!) I t ' s s o c o o l ! I love it! We entered on the bottom level--4th Avenue (very "early age of sci-fi" feel to the entrance here)--and went up to the 5th Ave entrance level, and then up, and up, and straight up. Then we spiraled down. Apparently the architect is someone named Koolhaas, and what an appropriate name for this totally cool house of books! There are even t-shirts with a pic of the library on them and the phrase "I read in a Koolhaas". (That pic's huge. Try this one if it won't load.)
Spiralling down the stacks, we came across the play file--always and forever one of my favourite places to go, and now ever so much cooler than it was in the old building. Picked up four plays, and have already read two of them: "Little Joe Monaghan" by Barbar Lebow (whom you might know better as the writer of "A Shayna Maidel"); and an odd little one-act called "Kate and Isabel". I think I like it, but I really need to hear it read outloud. I could totally see this being performed with my friend Kat as Isabel and either
jenboo or Janet as Kate. That, I believe, would make it a very fun show.
I also picked up "Talking With..." and "The Kathy and Mo Show". Hose & Britches have talked about these quite a bit. I'm tired of talking about them without really knowing the shows, so they're next on my reading list.
Soon, when I can tear myself from the cozy, sleepy kitty, I will make lentil dal and something-as-yet-unknown-invovling-some-sort-of-protein and perhaps a bit of mango drizzled with honey for dinner.
What an all around lovely day.
Rain is very good indeed
