over 7,000 words seems like alot of the the story to me. Next year they're letting larger stories in? Or do all the above things. One will have to work, right?

It is, really. Especially out of a 25,500-word story. It's not that the same publisher is letting in larger stories later. The anthology I wrote the story for was open, and I just didn't get into it. But other publishers are open for general submissions so I want to shop it around. Which reminds me... I wonder if I made it to round three of the Best First Lines Contest. I'd better go check!
