I'm just going to stop paying my friends back. Seriously. Some of them you can totally trust to deposit a check promptly--say in under two weeks.  Others...  I love them.  I really do.  But I'm going to have to drive to their homes and kick some asses soon if they don't go to the fucking bank!

Maybe you should consider little envelopes stuffed with cash. I'm seriously considering getting another bank account JUST for use for my sailing club. Because I've had overdrafts TWICE this year because it'll be THREE FUCKING MONTHS before they deposit a cheque. Often weeks and weeks after the event it was for. Drives me bonkers.

Fortunately I haven't had that problem. I just assume that when the check is written, the money is gone and I ignore what the bank thinks my balance is. But it's getting on my nerves because I balanced my checkbook today and the only things still in limbo are these two checks. I sent emails about them. Hopefully they'll get deposited now. ::crossing fingers::

Totally OT: I'm digging "The Tudors". Have you seen any of it yet?

I'm glad I don't owe you any money, right? ;) I'm usually very good about making sure the money is in my account before writing any checks. Overdrafts suck since they charge so frellin' much for them. ::rolleyes::

It's been a lonnnng time since I had an overdraft. Fortunately at that time I had an acct. that was tied to a credit card. I got charged for a cash withdrawl from credit, but never for an overdraft. Still sucky, but much cheaper.

Yeah. There are some friends that I have learned to simply pay back in cash. And that's fine, it's just that I didn't have that option this time (all three checks that were delayed were mailed to people). One down, two to go...

If you don't have a bank account that offers this option for no extra fees, you may be able to find a minimart that has a fee of less than one dollar per money order. If my friend loses it...it can be tracked back (if they remember that they lost it). If they sit on it for a long time and then redeem it...it doesn't affect my bank balance.

I've been paying rent using M.O.s for years now, because I got sick of landlords who'd get the check on the 1st and cash them around the 15th or 20th of the month (except for those months when they'd cash the check on the 5th or 10th, thereby giving me the impression that they were normal and stuff.)

Yeah. That's a good idea and I may do that in the future.

I just don't get it when people who I know are not independently wealthy don't promptly deposit money given to them. I sure as hell head to the bank asap when someone hands me a check. I mean it's a happy event to me, you know? Like: "Whee! I'm depositing MONEY!" (I feel like The Tick: "I'm doing laundry!" lol)

As long as they aren't paying attention, why not write it for half the amount? Or move the decimal over a bit, so it's for $1.23? I was going to suggest signing it "Albus Dumbledore" or somesuch, but that might get you in hot water.

I've considered, and I think it would be more appropriate to sign it "Ron Weasely" simply because he's the one I've identified with most since the very first book. You know, the not-quite-fuck-up, B-average student who'd rather be having fun but will end up studying in the end only because he has to. ;)

For the relatively small amounts that I write checks for, I'd be surprised if anyone even looked at the signature. But I'm a known cynic.
