monkeybard: (Henry & Katherine)

...until dinner settles into my tummy.  Then it's off to bed.  It was final rehearsal tonight, and we got the show done at 2h45m.  Who'd'a thunk it?  Of course, we started at 8ish, ran the show, got notes, broke everything down and packed up our cars.  Somerset and I left the parking lot at almost spot-on midnight.  I got him home, and then myself home--and all without gnawing off a limb.  Out late at a bar one night after a performance, [personal profile] jaunthie once asked me how I could eat at that hour.  I believe I said something to the effect of, "I'm an actor.  We eat when the opportunity presents itself."  And I probably said it with my mouth full.  What many people don't think about, I think, is the fact that a stage actor's "work day" can easily start at 6 or 7 pm.  If you work 9-5 (or thereabouts), what do you want when you get home?  Probably dinner.  Same here.  I left for "work" at 4:30pm and got home about 12:45am, at which time I was very ready for dinner.  Now my stomach is happily churning away on my little soft taco made with some leftover Chinese chicken dish and guac, salsa, etc.  I might even be wound-down enough to sleep in the next half hour or so.  I guess that means it's time to brush my teeth and go to bed.

I'd yawn, but I'm not quite there yet.  Hang on.  Wait for it...

...how I could eat at that hour...

I learned something. It's a popular thought that if you eat late at night and then go to bed the food doesn't digest in your stomach as easily or as well as if you were up and moving around, resulting in gaining weight in fat. This is completely false. Really, our stomachs and enzymes don't know what time it is. When food is present, they go. period. If you eat a lot of fatty food, you will probably gain weight, but it has nothing to do with what time you ate this food. This is not to say that eating late at night can make a person not feel well, but it's not any worse for their body. In general, fuel for the body is good. :) I'm with you on the eating any time of day or night. if I'm hungry, I eat. regardless of clocks. ;)
